Calexit and Civil War: Task Orders and Order of Battle

Previous post Calexit and Civil War: a History explored a scenario for the Civil War starting with the secession of California.  What follows are some background details of interest to historians studying the war’s origins and conduct.


Excerpts from the Executive Order on Response to Rebellion in California:

3.a. Task Force NorCal, led by I Corps, will enter California largely by land from Washington via Oregon and establish the Northern Occupation Zone (NOZ) in the following counties: Del Norte, Siskiyou, Modoc, Humboldt, Trinity, Shasta, Lassen, Tehama, Plumas, Glenn, Butte, Sierra, Nevada, Placer, Colusa, Yuba, Lake, Sutter, El Dorado. TF NorCal will attempt to link up with TF Sacramento and will block road access between its own area and rebel areas in Sonoma and Napa counties.

3.b. Task Force EastCal, led by XVIII Airborne Corps, will enter California largely by air from eastern states and establish the Eastern Occupation Zone (EOZ) in the following counties: Inyo, Tulare, Kings, Fresno, Madera, Merced, Mariposa, Mono, Tuolumne, Alpine, Amador, Calaveras, Sacramento, Yolo, Stanislaus, San Joaquin, Solano. TF EastCal will enter the City of Sacramento and apprehend the rebel government. TF EastCal will block road access between its territory and the following counties: Sonoma, Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo, Napa, Solano, Contra Costa, Alameda, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, San Benito, Monterey. TF EastCal will link up with TF NorCal and TF SoCal to the south.

3.c. Task Force SoCal, led by I MEF, will enter California largely by land and air from I MEF bases in CA and AZ, and establish the Southern Occupation Zone (SOZ) in the following counties: Kern, San Bernardino, Orange, Riverside, San Diego, Imperial. TF SoCal will block road access between its territory and the following counties: San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Ventura, Los Angeles.
